In memory of Rita Lou Wine, 03/06/1932 - 03/26/2014

Rita Lou (London) Wine, age 82, of St. Paul, formerly of Duluth and Albert Lea, suddenly passed away on March 26, 2014. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Benjamin London; beloved husband, Richard Wine; sister, Bernice (London) and brother-in-law, Harold Blustin; sister-in-law, Shirley London; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Miggs and Marge Gordon, and Bert Gordon. Rita is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia (Lloyd) Orensten, Ashland, WI, Rabbi Julie Gordon, Silver Spring, MD; five grandchildren, Naomi Orensten (Hed Ehrlich), Oakland, CA, Rebekah Orensten, St. Paul, Shoshana Gordon Ginsburg, Washington, DC, Ari Gordon Ginsburg, Chicago, IL; brother, Ervin London; sister-in-law, Skippy Gordon, and many nieces and nephews. Rita graduated from Duluth Central High School. She attended Ohio State University, U of MN and Albert Lea Vocational School. She worked for MNDot, while attending the Fountain Lake Treatment Center Counselor's Training Program. Rita became a licensed Detox counselor and later studied to become an alcoholism and chemical dependency counselor. Rita's heart was committed to helping women in recovery. She worked closely with Hazelden Treatment Center, securing free beds for women needing treatment who didn't have financial means. She was also involved in the Jewish Recovery Network. Rita enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, antiquing, bingo, and dogs. Rita was a life member of Hadassah. Funeral service SUNDAY, 11 AM, BETH JACOB CONGREGATION, 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Sholom Foundation, 740 Kay Ave. St. Paul, MN 55102, Beth Jacob Congregation, 1179 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights, MN 55118, or to Temple Israel, 1602 E. 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55812. Rita was born and raised up in Duluth.  Her brother in law was Dr. Harold Blustin, his brother Robert Blustin eventually ran Garon Bros Jewelers.

Rita's brother Erv London's daughter Judy is married to Rabbi Ronald Shapiro, who is on the Karon tree.

Rita's mother was Rose London a Goldfarb related to Steve and them.

Rita's daughter, Julie, is a rabbi as was her ex husband, they were co rabbis at Temple of Arron in the twin cities.  I think she is very involved in the "Women of the Wall" trying to get females the right to fully pray at the Western Wall.  Back in high school since there were not very many Jews in Albert Lea she would tag along with our Duluth USY group to conventions and things.  Had to stop the bus on the interstate to pick her up.  
Rita's other daughter Cindy is married to Lloyd Orenstein, his grandmother was a sister to Mose Levine.  Also the Davis on the Stewart connections, Yale was Reiva Davis Orenstein's brother.
